Brave Pit bull survives four bullets while defending owner from home invader

Kanien Bane defended his owner from an armed robber and was shot multiple times

A Pit bull who defended his guardian from an armed home invasion will survive after being shot 4 times in the head. Laurel Cartwright has had 7-year-old Kanien Bane since he was 6 weeks old and is extremely relieved her dog is stil alive. “It’s a miracle, it is. It’s a blessing,” said Laure.

Laurel was on her computer at 3am when the front door of her Frankfort, Kentucky home suddenly opened and an unknown man came in. Kanien Bane immediately came to her defence and charged at the man, who then shot him twice in the head. Startled, Kanien Bane recovered and then rushed the man a second time and was shot two more times.

Laurel said the man then pointed the gun at her and threatened her, demanding “everything she had.” He left with around $350. Kanien Bane was taken to emergency and then to Dr. Clint Bevins of the Animal Medical Center for examination.

Two bullets went through his ears and the other two lodged in his forehead and neck. Dr. Bevins said that the dog was in good shape considering. “He actually looks pretty good for what he’s been through,” Dr. Bevins told the State Journal, adding that the dog has “a good spirit” but has ” a pretty good headache”. The two bullets lodged in Kanien Bane’s forehead and neck will remain in the dog’s body and are non-threatening.

Police are now seeking the suspect. He’s described as 6 feet tall, around 170 pounds with a thin build. He is Caucasian and was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with some writing on the front and a mask that covered the lower portion of his face. Laurel’s home is located on Polsgrove Street.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Alan Burton at 875-8523. Anonymous information may be given to Frankfort Crime Stoppers at 875-8648 or at www.frankfortcrimestoppers.com. Crime Stoppers may pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
